Closing Statement – American Legion Post 195
After more than fifteen years as Commander, and many decades of faithful service to our community and its veterans, I announce that American Legion Post 195 has formally conclude operations in September 2025.
Our post has proudly carried forward the Legion’s mission of “Veterans Strengthening America” since its founding, honoring those who served and standing as a pillar of remembrance, service, and camaraderie for veterans and their families. Over the years, Post 195 provided color guards, honor details, community service projects, and countless hours of fellowship and support for those who wore our nation’s uniform.
As time has moved on, our membership, made up largely of World War II veterans, has naturally declined. Their dedication, humor, and sense of duty shaped this post’s identity and inspired all who followed. It has been my great honor to serve alongside them and to help ensure their legacy endures.
While Post 195 will close its doors, the spirit of its members continues in the lives we’ve touched and in the traditions carried forward by other Legion posts throughout the region. The American Legion’s mission endures: service to veterans, defense of patriotic values, and community support.
To all who have stood shoulder to shoulder with us, members, families, and our community, I extend my deepest gratitude. You helped keep alive the principles of honor, loyalty, and service that define the American Legion and our great nation.
Respectfully,
Stephen Dake, Commander, Wisconsin Post 195
